Colorful clicks: Instagram ad update

October 23, 2017

A seemingly subtle change to Instagram ads could make a significant difference in click-through success. Facebook is continuing to add value to the platform by rolling out an update that allows ads to blend more seamlessly into the Instagram user feed. Ads currently feature a blue call-to-action button to differentiate them from standard posts. The downside is that the blue button really makes the post stand out as an ad, which can turn off the target audience.

The update will change the call-to-action button from blue to the main color contained in the ad or video, making the ad less obtrusive and more likely to drive traffic and leads.

“With this new wrinkle, Instagram is making ads feel less invasive by having them blend more naturally into a person’s feed,” said Alexandra Morrison, Digital Marketing Strategist at BroadBased. “This can potentially increase the chance the targeted user will click the ad because it feels more like a standard post.”
