Warning! If your website isn't secured with an HTTPS certificate, you could lose your search rankings

September 22, 2017

Anyone who’s familiar with search engine optimization (SEO) knows that the only constant in Google’s search algorithm is change. And when a change occurs, it can mean the difference between top rankings and average rankings, which can directly impact your website’s effectiveness.

We’re bringing this up because starting October 1 Google will roll out one of its most significant algorithm changes to date. If you’re not ready, it could cost you traffic and leads.

The change is that Google will begin displaying various security warnings to users when they attempt to access websites that aren’t secured with something called an SSL certificate. This is important. It essentially means that websites without an SSL certificate will greet visitors, courtesy of Google, with a security warning. In addition to potentially scaring off visitors, Google will also penalize non-SSL websites in its search results. It’s a double-whammy of bad user experience and lower search rankings.

Now, the good news. You can fix it. It’s both easy and inexpensive to install an SSL and convert your website to HTTPs. Get in touch and we’ll customize a solution for your website.
